Ngorongoro Conservation Area situated on the northern side of Tanzania with an area of 8,292 square km is an amazing part of Tanzania Safari Tours. It is one of the largest calderas on the planet formed by the eruption of large amounts of magma from a volcano for a short time period. Over 3 million years ago, there was a higher volcano than Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The tallest volcano of that time exploded violently which gives birth to Ngorongoro crater. Among all Tanzania Destinations Ngorongoro crater is a part of the UNESCO heritage site. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area, among all other National Parks is unique in its own way. There are two major famous archaeological sites namely, Olduvai Gorge and Laetolil.

From Olduvai Gorge, the earliest human fossils were found which is dating 2.1 million ago. In this National Park, you can spot black rhinos, the vulnerable species among the African big five in this crater. Approximately, there are 25,000 wild creatures in the caldera. You will get the opportunities to spot African Big Five animals together. You can find thousands of wildebeests, zebras, elands, gazelles, elephants, lions, hyena, and other animals. From the bottom of this bowl, you can enjoy the sunset on the outside of the unbroken wall in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This crater is also a birding paradise with approximately 500 birds. You can find the largest birds like Ostrich, Kori bustards, secretary bird, and the smallest bird-like Hummingbird.

With a high concentration of wildlife, this caldera is one of the greatest wonders of the world. In January and February, the bottom of this caldera turns into the calving place for the wildebeest. To watch the game view in this crater, June to September is the Best Time to Visit Tanzania as well as this crater.
