overview

Shira route approaches from the west of Mt. Kilimanjaro and descends through Mweka route during the Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing. This route is the old version of new Lemosho route. As a western route, you can enjoy the fascinating scenic views of nature.

The route is very much identical to Lemosho route. Lemosho in fact is an improved variation of the Shira route. Due to the relatively high altitude of Shira’s starting point it is less favourable compared to its successor. While camping at 11,800 feet it is possible that climbers will experience some altitude related symptoms on the first day.

We are often asked in the Kilimanjaro FAQ about the rate of success is 70%. You may face altitude problems but our well trained Kilimanjaro Guides will help you overcome the same. The Kilimanjaro trekking cost on Shira Route is little expensive than Lemosho route. We will provide you with the right Kilimanjaro Packing List that you will require on your trip. This route is not for inexperienced hikers and for a successful summit it needs 7 days with 6 nights.

Following are the advantages of this beautiful route of Shira over Lemosho or other routes:

  •  High summit success rate.
  •  Good for acclimatization, especially on the longer itineraries
  •  Remote and spectacular, dramatic gorges and views of west Kilimanjaro
  •  Converges with Machame on day 4 at Baranco
  •  Shira offers higher start point compared to Lemosho and poorer acclimatisation
  •  Fully catered camping only

So start planning your trip on this adventurous route of Shira with Tanzania Safari Kenya for the best trekking experience.
